The Southern African Dakar Group started out as a Facebook Page for the 2017 Dakar, this followed the Southern African Dakar Group on Whatsapp that was started a couple years before and was joined by the Telegram group – Southern African Dakar Group, which were started by Stephie Vetter and Johann van Deventer. The large international teams had massive media coverage, while the many of the bikers were left to their own devices. As such we started following and trying to assist the competitors of the Southern Africa region, including South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe.
The Facebook Page, has grown tremendously from 2017 to 2021, with hundreds of thousands following the daily updates and news. We troll the websites, forums, WhatsApp groups and more to bring as much news during the rally. We have various people on the ground at the Dakar and from locations around the world, also giving us as much information as they can.
We hope that this webpage, which were started by Eugene Botes, will become the go to webpage for everyone wanting to get more information about the Dakar or wanting more information about our pilots, co-pilots and support crews.
